Sunshine, snow and Austria’s largest treasure hunt bring the winter season in Obertauern to a close

Enjoy a spectacular treasure hunt and Sun & Fun weeks in the ‘snow bowl’.

Die-hard skiers and snowboard fans wish winter would never end. Long after snowdrops and crocuses have begun blooming in the valley, they still find themselves drawn to the snowy summits. Obertauern is the perfect choice for this clientele, as the highest located winter sports resort in the state of Salzburg guarantees premium snow conditions and open chalets through 1 May 2017.

Its Sun & Fun week offers make ‘sunshine-skiing’ down the 100 kilometres of perfectly prepped slopes even more alluring. And Snow Bunny Bobby eagerly awaits families with kids up to their 15th birthday: Bobby’s Snow Adventure from 15 to 22 April 2017 is an exciting training package for kids, including ski lessons, a ski pass, rental equipment and much more. This offer is available for €199 for children up to the age of 5 and for €279 for 6 to 14-year-olds.

During the Sun & Fun weeks, from 25 March to 8 April and from 15 April through the end of the season on 1 May, snow and sun galore are affordable for everyone thanks to low-budget package deals. In the first period of the bargain weeks, for example, a one-week stay in a four-star hotel with half board and a six-day ski pass is available from €838 per person. It has become a tradition in Obertauern to not let winter sneak off quietly and discreetly, but to give it a loud send off with lots of music, feel-good parties and an awesome hidden treasure hunt.

Where are the car keys?

Picture the Gamsleiten 2 startlingly steep and mysteriously empty. But not for long. Soon after the start signal is given, over 1,000 happy treasure hunters lucky enough to have scored a ticket will be weaving down the legendary slope to a designated area above the valley station to begin feverishly digging up the lot. Roughly 30 treasure chests will be hidden in the snow, all containing great non-cash prizes and premium travel vouchers. But naturally what everyone is really after is the jackpot: Keys to a brand new BMW X1, buried in one of the treasure chests deep down under the snow.

This year’s 11th edition of the beloved Gamsleiten Criterion, Austria’s largest treasure hunt in the snow, will take place on 17 April (Easter Monday). Limited tickets are available for €50 at the Tourist Office Obertauern or online at www.obertauern-tickets.com.

Looking for a cool birthday gift? Then check out the Schatzsucher Package (Treasure Hunter Package), available for €299 from the Obertauern online shop (www.obertauern-shop.com). The deal includes vouchers for board and/or lodging, a three-day ski pass and admission to the Gamsleiten Criterion.

The starting numbers will be drawn on 16 April, the evening before the treasure hunt, during the big Ö3 Disco Gamsleiten party – with a very special highlight this year for all treasure hunters and party animals: Breakout star Kerstin Ott will rock the stage live during the draw with her hit “Die immer lacht” and have everyone psyched for the grand treasure hunt the next day.
