Exclusive Epicurean Pleasures at the Gams Geniesser- & Kuschelhotel in Bezau

Marinated slices of veal with tuna and lemon sauce and Parmesan pastry; scallops and Norway lobster on a bed of vanilla fennel and physalis ragout; rack of lamb with Alp herbs baked in a salt crust; pumpkin seed parfait surrounded by a mantle of chocolate – and all of this by candlelight. At the Gams Geniesser- & Kuschelhotel, a candlelight dinner becomes a feast for the senses. Whether the Gault Millau testers were looking for romance as well, we don’t know, but they certainly felt that the cuisine was worth two toques.

The Gams Geniesser- & Kuschelhotel has been cultivating a fine, creative and light cuisine at its cosy inn in Bregenzerwald for a long time. The main house was built in 1648, while the Blütenschloss with 24 cosy suites opened in summer 2005. Fine food is served in the public rooms designed in Wilhelminian style, the gourmet restaurant and the romantic restaurant. At noon, there are Austrian specialities; in the evening, David Haase the young head chef works his magic to conjure up epicurean treats for lovers. The perfect accompaniment is wine – predominantly Austrian – from the hotel’s own vaulted cellar. The highlight is the finale of the menu: Jean-François Bazin, chocolatier, is a master of confectionery. His great passion is chocolate and his special creation of dark chocolate soufflé with orange and pumpkin sorbet is an absolute must. No wonder that the restaurant has already received the most important distinctions. Here, one should mention Gault Millau, the bible for gourmets, which awarded two toques (15 points). In 2005, the hotel won the title “Affineur of the Year” in cooperation with Schördinger Berglandmilch, for its services to the local cheese culture. Austria’s gourmet guide “À La Carte” awarded the hotel two stars, while the Brauunion Österreich AG and Gault Millau jointly awarded a beer crown for the hotel’s typical Austrian cuisine and for the all-round perfection of its beer culture. In addition, the magazine Falstaff selected the hotel as having one of Austria’s best restaurants.

This also applies to the combination of an old world superstructure with the inviting and elegant interior of the ‘Gourmet-Stube’, a place in which one feels at home from the first moment”, said Gault Millau which, delighted with the comfortable ambience, the table culture and the sense of personal wellbeing, praises the owners: “Ellen Nenning and her partner, Andreas Mennel, together with a sensitive architect, moved the building into the 21st century, without disturbing the character of the property”. The restaurant’s motto “We not only enchant your palate, but bewitch all your senses” is not exaggerated in view of all this praise.
